Average Weeknight

from Rearview by Two Cheers

/

about

“Average Weeknight” was inspired by a night in Highland Park and imbues the scenery and conversations of a pedestrian evening with the sense of wonder and newness I had that night. I often have these moments when everything that is happening around me seems really significant, things that normally I would take for granted seem really meaningful. I like to remember those times, so I always write them down and make songs out of them. My beer was so good, it seemed like the first time I was drinking and getting a buzz. My friend Emily Luna had just lost her grandmother (“Gram”) who was her best friend, and her voice started to crack while she was washing my hair, and her pain really touched me and I started crying, but my head was wet anyway, and I was glad she didn’t notice. My friend Kevin who runs a coffee shop where I write most of my songs now was telling me about his plans to propose to his girlfriend, and I was really excited for him. It seems like nothing much, but really it’s everything - it’s my little corner of everything that’s happening.
