A Happy Hour

from Rearview by Two Cheers

about

“A Happy Hour” captures the mood of wine-drunk night with long lost friends and a happy memory that gives the present a sense of hope. One of the happiest time in my life was when my soon-to-be wife and I moved into a house in California together with a big backyard with big pepper tree, a big patio with a chimney, and big picnic table, and we used have people over all the time and I would make them pizzas from scratch. And around that time I started Two Cheers and started collaborating with Mitchell (former guitarist) on Splendor, too. And of course, I got engaged there. So lots of people would come over, and it was the first time in my life I felt at the heart of something, like part of a tribe. When we moved to Detroit, we had to leave all that behind, and it was one of the most painful things when we were gone, not being able to find that again. But the memory inspired me to want to come back, and recapture the feeling but in a new way… Maybe by starting a family or reforming Two Cheers or whatever.
